Bruton

Bryan Bruton scrapes by as a small-time drug dealer in northern Florida - he and his family manage somehow, and he even considers switching to honest work. Then a dispute escalates, an accident happens, a man dies. Bruton gets ten years. Ten years during which he will barely see his wife and daughter, surrounded by hardened criminals and corrupt guards in the harshest justice system in the United States.

But Bruton adapts: he finds allies behind bars, smuggles phones into prison, and runs a popular pirate radio station in the basement. When a lonely prison guard named Maura falls in love with him, he begins planning an escape - until life, as it so often does, has other plans.

After "Bang Bang" and last year's Spirit of Cinema winner "Keep Quiet", Vincent Grashaw returns to Oldenburg for the third consecutive time with "Bruton". His prison drama, based on a true story, becomes under his direction a tragicomic ode to love, friendship, and life.
