Wat haste, Iokaste?
With just nine props, rapid role changes, and cabaret songs, the production tells the story of Oedipus - son of Laius, king of Thebes - who unknowingly kills his own father and later, as a reward for freeing Thebes from the Sphinx, marries Jocasta: the widow of the king and thus his own mother. Bodo Wartke's stage adaptation is based on Sophocles' work and draws on a myth that resonates to this day - not least in the concept of the Oedipus complex.
The production combines comedy and tragedy, offering an accessible entry point into one of the most famous stories in world theatre literature.
