Gesprächsstoff - Socio-Political Talk: Where Does the Fun End? The Impact and Limits of Humor

Renitenztheater's "Gesprächsstoff" series addresses contemporary and future socio-political issues. Intendant Roland Mahr regularly discusses these topics with philosopher Amrei Bahr and rotating guests. This time, Moritz Hürtgen is invited - former editor-in-chief of the satirical magazine Titanic, now a freelance author, columnist, moderator, satirist, and podcaster. In Munich, he hosts "Volksshow - Late Night mit Moritz Hürtgen" at the Munich Volkstheater and co-hosts the podcast "Bohniger Wachmacher" with Dax Werner.

The central question: where does the fun end? Can humor really do anything - or do jokes based on discriminatory stereotypes contribute to exclusion and humiliation? Are there topics that should not be joked about in principle, or can humor precisely draw attention to abuses when it addresses terrible things? And can humor be understood as a tool of social criticism that, through the freedom to transgress boundaries, can spark change?
