Reinhard Mey Tribute Evening
Theaterstübchen Kassel, Germany
An evening celebrating 50 years of the singer-songwriter's work - performed by Johannes Riemann
With over 400 songs, Reinhard Mey has created a repertoire unmatched among his contemporaries. Whether melancholic and reflective or cheerful and satirical, he draws from every walk of life and treats the most mundane everyday situations with the same lyrical sophistication as the greatest themes. Plumbers, murderers and gardeners, a flight over the clouds, German history: Mey commands the richness of the German language like few others, writing about personal freedom, social critique, nature, transience, friendship, childhood, love and longing.
The 30-year-old Kassel musician Johannes Riemann has long been captivated by Mey's songs. He performs them with sensitivity and joy, accompanying himself on guitar and piano, and enriches the music with anecdotes about Mey's work and life - a tribute to one of Germany's most celebrated singer-songwriters.
