HAW Students and Ulli Lust — Literaturhaus Hamburg, Hamburg
Description was written before the event

"PUTZ UND PANELS" MEETS "WOMAN AS HUMAN"
Presentation of student work and reading by Ulli Lust

In the seminar "Putz und Panels" at Hochschule für Angewandte Wissenschaften Hamburg, students under the direction of Mia Oberländer have explored the history of the house at Schwanenwik 38 through artistic practice - from a private villa through an X-ray institute and dance school to a "detention facility for young women" and today's Literaturhaus. The result is a brochure that the students will present this evening, discussing the process of its creation.

"Woman as Human - At the Beginning of History" was in 2025 the first comic to win the German Non-Fiction Book Prize. Ulli Lust guides readers through millennia of female achievement and human creativity - a sweeping exploration of women's role in art and cultural history. The follow-up volume "Woman as Human - Shamans" (Reprodukt) has just been published.

Ulli Lust, born in Vienna in 1967, is among the most important German-language comic artists. Her comic "Heute ist der letzte Tag vom Rest deines Lebens" won the Ignatz Award and the Los Angeles Times Book Prize. She teaches drawing and comics at Hochschule Hannover.

Moderation: Ekaterini Iosifidou and Le Thu Tran. In cooperation with Comic Festival Hamburg (October 2-4).

Schedule: approximately one hour of student presentations, approximately one and a half hours of reading by Ulli Lust, with a break.
