60 Kilo Sundays - Reading with Hallgrímur Helgason
Literaturhaus München, Munich, Germany
Moderation: Alex Rühle (SZ)
Reading: Thorsten Krohn
With "60 Kilo Sundays" (Tropen, translated by Karl-Ludwig Wetzig), Hallgrímur Helgason continues his great Icelandic narrative. Against the backdrop of economic crisis, class struggles, and social upheaval, he weaves together historical turning points with the dramas of everyday life - cleverly, comically, and with full narrative pleasure. Since "101 Reykjavík", Helgason has been regarded as a defining literary voice of Iceland; in his "60 Kilo" trilogy, he tells the story of this idiosyncratic country as a poetic and pointed saga, "torpedoing all Iceland clichés with dark humour" (Die Welt).
