Saba-Nur Cheema & Meron Mendel - The Outrage Trap
DAI Heidelberg, Germany
Conflict is essential to democracy - yet today's constant agitation is an outrage trap: instead of substantive debate, rigid camps and ideological echo chambers emerge, increasingly hampering public discourse. For years, Saba-Nur Cheema and Meron Mendel have brought together people with fundamentally different views. On this evening, they discuss what resilient debate practice looks like and how we can cultivate it.
Prof. Dr. Meron Mendel studied pedagogy and Jewish history in Haifa and Munich, and earned his doctorate in Frankfurt. He is a professor of social work and director of the Anne Frank Education Centre.
Dr. Saba-Nur Cheema is a political scientist and anti-racism trainer who advises the German federal government on issues of Islamophobia.
