MISS CARBÓN | QUEEN OF COAL
Agustina Macri, Argentina/Spain 2025, 94 min., Spanish original with German and English subtitles

The film is based on the true story of Carla "Carlita" Rodríguez, the first female coal miner in Argentina's Santa Cruz province. An old superstition holds that women pose a cave-in risk in mines - mining was therefore reserved for men. Carlita (played by Lux Pascal) nevertheless asserts herself in this male-dominated workplace while undergoing her personal transition, during which she finds new friends and a chosen family. The film shows how she dismantles the system from within.
