Hang Time: The Niggaz' I-Ching is a choreographic meditation on hanging out and hanging on: in the air, in life, by a thread. Braids hang low off the nape of the neck. Bodies suspend in time. Lives depend on one another. Moving between soca and bouyon, séance, ritual, and gathering, the work conjures a state of community, suspension, and haunting.
Drawing from Black and Caribbean lived experience, Marikiscrycrycry examines grief, mental health, and fracture lines within masculine communities. Cornrows and braids emerge as protection, coding, and trace - lines that guide, bind, or suddenly resemble a rope. Hang Time moves within the tension between care and danger, survival and loss of control. The performers carry one another, lose one another, endure. The work passes through states of exhaustion, dissolution, invocation, and echo. It asks what holds community together when vulnerability has no place - and what remains in the air after someone disappears.
