UMWEGE
Uferstudios, Berlin, Germany
UMWEGE brings together the choreographic thesis works of this year's graduates from the Danceworks Berlin programme. The evening presents short pieces that emerged from individual research processes, offering insights into the questions, working methods, and artistic languages of a new generation of choreographers and performers.
The title represents a space of possibilities where knowledge does not develop in a straight line. The works do not follow clear-cut answers, but instead move along questions, ruptures, and open processes - movement as a form of thinking, choreography as a space for reflection and imagination.
Thematically, the pieces address interpersonal relationships, proximity and distance, rhythm as a structuring element, identity, memory, care, power relations, and the relationship between body, space, and time. Methodologically, they employ improvisation, composition, somatic practices, voice, language, music, and visual media - sometimes from precise formal frameworks, sometimes from intuitive or collaborative processes.
Duration: 2 hours including intermission (15 min)
