Alongside his work with the band, he has released several solo albums that lean into electronic and ambient territory. His collaboration with drummer and producer John McEntire - his longtime bandmate - spans decades.

John McEntire is an American musician and producer based in Chicago, best known as the drummer and multi-instrumentalist of the post-rock band Tortoise. He has also worked extensively as a recording engineer and producer, collaborating with artists across experimental, jazz, and indie rock. His long-standing musical partnership with Sam Prekop dates back to their work together in The Sea and Cake.
