Berlin Hauptbahnhof is Germany's largest and Europe's most modern multi-level railway station, opened in 2006. The Washingtonplatz exit leads to the northern forecourt facing the Spree river and the government district. The open plaza in front of the station regularly serves as a venue for public events, markets, and outdoor gatherings.
