Sona Jobarteh is a Gambian musician and singer - the first woman from a griot family to be granted the right to play the kora, a traditional West African string instrument. She comes from one of Gambia's most prominent griot dynasties and keeps the region's oral tradition alive through her music. As frontwoman of her own band, she has reached over 10 million views on YouTube while singing in her native languages.
