Swan Lake: The Story of Rothbart takes the stage at Staatsoper Hannover on Friday, 18 December 2026 at 19:30. Niedersächsische Staatstheater Hannover reimagines the classical ballet from the perspective of its antagonist, Rothbart. This is the fourth of five German dates for the company this season. Staatsoper Hannover, a neoclassical building completed in 1852 and designed by architect Georg Ludwig Friedrich Laves, ranks among Germany's leading opera houses and sits in the heart of Hannover. The production merges classical choreography with a bold reframing of a character audiences know from the traditional narrative.
