"For Frankfurt I'll die, as long as I live!" - With Maximilian Leopold Langenschwarz from Rödelheim to New York

Maximilian Leopold Langenschwarz was born in 1808 in Rödelheim to a Jewish family. He drifted between Hamburg, Vienna, Pressburg, and Paris working as a bookseller's assistant, public performer, dialect poet, improviser - what we'd call a stand-up comedian today - and "water doctor", before emigrating to the United States after 1848. He wrote comedies and tragedies, corresponded with Goethe, penned revolutionary satirical verse, an "Arithmetic of Language" (dedicated to humanity), and plays in the Frankfurt dialect. In 1867, his trail goes cold in New York. A genuine discovery.
