As a gifted poet, Friedrich Stoltze mastered both delicate wit and blunt punchlines, raising the Frankfurt dialect to a remarkable literary standard. He made his living as publisher and lead writer of the satirical weekly "Frankfurter Latern", which became famous well beyond Frankfurt for its humour and anti-Prussian stance.
