Ensemble I Zefirelli
Bürgerhaus Neuenhagen, Germany
Founded in Hamburg, Ensemble I Zefirelli is dedicated to historically informed performance practice, blending Baroque music with folk. The six musicians have been performing together since 2017 and took their name from Zephyr, the Greek god of the west wind.
Line-up:
Luise Catenhusen, recorder
Maria Carrasco Gil, Baroque violin
Jakob Kuchenbuch, Baroque cello and viola da gamba
Tobias Tietze, lute and Baroque guitar
Jeroen Finke, percussion and baritone
Tilmann Albrecht, harpsichord
The ensemble has performed at the Internationalen Händel-Festspielen Göttingen, the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival, the Festival de musique Baroque d'Ambronay, and the York Early Music Festival, among others. I Zefirelli is a prize-winner of the International H.I.F. Biber Competition 2019 and the göttingen händel competition 2021, and in 2022/23 took part in the European fellowship programme EEEMERGING+, supported by Creative Europe of the European Union.
Programme: "Mr. Händel im Pub" - On the fine line between Baroque and folk.
The concert programme transports the audience into the atmosphere of an old London pub, placing English folk songs alongside works by Handel, Purcell, and Corelli. I Zefirelli explores the grey area between so-called serious music and entertainment - on replicas of Baroque instruments: Baroque violin, recorder, Baroque cello, lute, Baroque guitar, harpsichord, and historical percussion. The programme was released on CD in 2022 and promptly landed on the Longlist 3/2022 of the Deutschen Schallplattenkritik.
