Ein Quantum Trotz

Children are forever excused with a knowing nod: "They're just going through the defiance phase." Screaming, throwing things, refusing to listen - "Defiance phase!" Rolling around on the supermarket floor in front of the sweets aisle, flailing in all directions until you wish you'd brought an exorcist - "Defiance phase! It'll pass."

Looking at humanity as a whole, it seems we're all stuck in one giant collective defiance phase. We defy the weather, our parents, our boss, our governments, the feeling of fullness ("One more, just one more will fit!") - and above all, reason itself. Not out of conviction or good cause, but just because; often despite knowing better. And yet defiance, well directed, can actually do good: heal, topple regimes, get us through crises.

Armed with a licence to clown around and acting on behalf of their Humorousness, the four take on defiance itself - not because they can, but in spite of everything.
