HAVANA ignites a great Afro-Cuban fire

The eleven-piece orchestra comes to Mühlengarten on 24 July

SALZGITTER-SALDER. Afro-Cuban fire blazes through the air when HAVANA brings its Latin programme to the stage. For 45 years, this eleven-piece orchestra has been the definitive name in explosive salsa. Across more than 1,200 concerts in Germany and neighbouring countries, HAVANA has lived up to its reputation as the go-to act for hot Latin music. The band's salsa cocktail, led by pianist and composer Kurt Klose, plays on Friday, 24 July, from 20:00 in the Mühlengarten of Schloss Salder.

Alongside Kurt Klose, the award-winning salsa ensemble features well-known figures from the German Latino scene, including Rey Valencia (vocals) and Sabine Wucherpfennig (vocals). They bring plenty of Caribbean energy to the stage and dazzle with breathtaking solos.

HAVANA opens up every channel of a demanding, supremely danceable salsa spectacular: simmering percussion trades off against a punchy brass section, underpinned by a solid foundation of bass, piano and guitar. Above it all, the voices of the excellent vocal trio. The blend of mambo, rumba, cha-cha-cha, bolero, bomba, plena and Latin soul is captured across seven albums.

"There was more adrenaline in it than you could burn through in a few wild nights," one German daily wrote of a HAVANA show. Another paper ran the headline: "Warning! HAVANA is contagious".
