ESTAMPIE & QNTAL - Anniversary Concert

40 years of Estampie, 35 years of Qntal! That makes 75 years combined!

What a sensation it was when Estampie first, then Qntal appeared on the stages of contemporary music and began playing medieval music. Exotic instruments, mysteriously familiar texts, fairytale melodies... which Qntal then blended with electronic sounds. A new genre was born.

To this day, no one has matched those who created it. Sigrid Hausen and Michael Popp are the heart of both projects, arranging their music - far removed from any carnival fare - like a journey through time. Not an escape, but rather aesthetic lectures that develop a subtle power of imagination.

This power and curiosity about the cultures on whose shoulders we stand have taken Estampie and Qntal around the world. Over 30 recordings and stage programmes have been created in this time, radio and television broadcasts produced, and in the director's cut version of the Hollywood blockbuster "Kingdom of Heaven," the voice of Sigrid Hausen can be heard, plus countless projects involving theatre, dance, and performance. And workshops... medieval singing is not what is taught at pop academies; the musical logic is entirely different. Like a distant relative. Estampie and Qntal have illuminated the Middle Ages. And developed a medieval aesthetic that builds a bridge into the independence of contemporary times, into rock-pop and avant-garde.

So now: a special anniversary programme! Just 2 evenings nationwide:

In Bochum and Munich, Estampie and Qntal will present a cross-section of their long creative years with unique guest musicians and some surprises.
