A Crime Worth Its Salt

A cultural society in a Swabian town wants to stage Goethe's "Faust I" again this year - last year's success requires recasting the lead role. To this end, the board invites the public to an open casting, where Linda Bergmann, a locally known actress who plays Mephistopheles, is also present. The evening proceeds smoothly at first, until a sudden death throws everything into chaos. Are criminal machinations at work?

Tensions emerge between the society and the municipality. Marlene Dieterle - society chairwoman and homicide detective - takes over the investigation. The central question is: what really happened the night before the farewell party of the former Faust actor? Some guests also come under suspicion; Detective Dieterle explicitly asks for their cooperation.
