Hitch & I - Jens Wawrczeck Reads Spellbound

Jens Wawrczeck - known as Detective Peter Shaw from the audio drama series Die drei ??? - dedicates his reading series HITCH & I to the novels and stories behind Alfred Hitchcock's film successes. The programme is dark, musical, multimedia - and accompanied by live music from rotating guest artists.

This time, the focus is on Francis Beeding's novel, which Hitchcock adapted for Spellbound. Originally published as "Das Haus von Dr. Edwardes" (The House of Dr. Edwardes), the title understates the setting: Château Landry is a medieval castle where Dr. Edwardes runs a prestigious nerve clinic. Two new doctors are expected - psychiatrist Dr. Murchison and the novice Dr. Constance Sedgwick. Upon arrival, Constance discovers that Dr. Edwardes has left and suffered a nervous breakdown himself. To make matters worse, a patient suffering from obsessive delusions, whom Dr. Murchison personally admitted, has killed one of the attendants. The other patients seem to flourish under the methods of the brilliant young doctor - until the deranged murderer suddenly claims to be Murchison himself. Will Constance recognize the diabolical danger lurking in the castle?
