Since 1976, LJSO Hessen has been Hesse's principal training ground for young orchestral talent. For the 50th anniversary, alumni from every generation return to where their musical journey began, joining the orchestra's current members at the hr-Sendesaal in Frankfurt.
The first half is performed by a specially assembled anniversary orchestra under Nicolás Pasquet. Alumni now playing in leading ensembles - among them the Dresdner Philharmonie, the Gürzenich-Orchester Köln, and the Frankfurter Opern- und Museumsorchester - take the stage alongside many other former colleagues. The programme pairs Latin American rhythms by Ginastera and Márquez with a work of particular local significance: Paul Hindemith's powerful Symphony "Mathis der Maler".
The second half belongs to the current generation of LJSO. With Béla Bartók's Concerto for Orchestra, the young musicians aged 13 to 21 tackle one of the great showpieces of the modern repertoire, demonstrating the orchestra's undiminished energy and skill in its anniversary year.
Running time: approx. 2.5 hours including interval
