Gysi vs. Sonneborn - The Chancellor's Duel of Hearts
Stadthalle Gifhorn, Germany
A thoroughly left-wing affair. A two-person piece.
Pingpong of brilliant ideas. Each a sparring partner for the other.
An experienced opposition politician and an equally seasoned clown battle together: against political routine. Gregor Gysi wants to enrich politics with wit; Martin Sonneborn uses his wit to expose politics as impoverished - both test in conversation how far one must go to break free from convention.
"Die PARTEI and Die Linke in power: Martin, then something would happen in Germany!"
"Punk! It would be punk. Pure punk!"
Gregor Gysi, born in 1948, lawyer and politician. Represented as a lawyer, among others, Robert Havemann, Rudolf Bahro and other regime critics. From 1989-1992 chairman of the PDS. From December 2016 to December 2019 president of the Party of the European Left. In 2020 appointed foreign policy spokesman for the Die Linke faction in the Bundestag.
Martin Sonneborn, born in 1965 in Göttingen, studied journalism, German studies and political science in Münster, Vienna and Berlin; master's thesis on the complete ineffectiveness of modern satire. Co-editor of Titanic magazine. Finds it amusing that despite the then-compelling scientific arguments, he has been sitting in the European Parliament for seven years. Recently published the book "99 Ideas for Reviving Political Utopia: The Communist Manifesto".
