FAMILY MATTERS: Meeresbriefe - An Evening with Siri Ranva Hjelm Jacobsen
Literaturhaus München, Munich, Germany
Moderation: Joachim Schiedermair & Felix Bidder (LMU)
Reading: Sophia Güttler
They are unequal sisters with plenty to tell each other: in her novel "Meeresbriefe" (März Verlag, transl. Franziska Hüther, illustrations by Dorte Naomi), celebrated in Denmark and now published in German, Siri Ranva Hjelm Jacobsen casts two oceans as active protagonists. The Mediterranean and the Atlantic report to each other from their corners of the world. Humanity? A footnote in the universe.
Invited by the LMU research training group "Family Matters", the Danish author approaches the theme of family from an unexpected angle - writing with poetic force about myth and transformation, memory and belonging.
