Bodo Wartke is a pianist, wordsmith, actor and comedian rolled into one - wordplay and musical playfulness run through his entire repertoire. His trademarks are unusual, highly musical rhymes paired with sophisticated compositions in which language and sound give each other structure. His award-winning shows range from playful rhyme etudes and complex love songs to socially critical chansons - sometimes funny, sometimes political.
As a solo artist he has developed six piano cabaret programmes, plus two best-of shows with orchestras and one with his band. He has also released two modern retellings of ancient dramas in which he performs as an actor himself: "King Oedipus" and "Antigone" after Sophocles.
Thematically and stylistically, Wartke knows almost no limits: from tap dance numbers and pop hits to freshly interpreted Mozart sonatas, from "Liebeslied" - which he has set to music in 88 different languages - to the socially critical "Monica" and the politically charged "Hambacher Wald". He draws inspiration for his lyrics and melodies from the many layers of public and private life.
