Macbeth — Metropol Theater, Vechta

Scotland in the 11th century. Lightning and thunder. In a forest, three witches prophesy to the valiant general Macbeth that he will one day become king of the land. To fulfill his fate, Macbeth - spurred on by his equally ambitious and ruthless wife - decides to murder the current king. But before he can ascend the coveted throne, further murders and slanders are necessary. When he finally achieves his goal, he is merely a shadow of himself and lives in constant fear that his deeds will be exposed or the ghosts of the murdered might seek revenge on him.

William Shakespeare's (1564-1616) "Macbeth", one of the most powerful and violent dramas, we read today as a profound psychological thriller: Consumed by ambition and lust for power, Macbeth and his wife know no moral boundaries and literally walk over corpses. Yet they cannot kill their own conscience and become victims of themselves.
