The inaugural concert of new chief conductor Levente Török conjures the magic of beginnings: in "The Wand of Youth", Edward Elgar looks back 40 years and wraps melodies he had sketched as a teenager in a rich orchestral setting.

John Rutter's Partita pays tribute to the heroes of his youth - Maurice Ravel, William Walton, and George Gershwin. Lili Boulanger was just 24 when she wrote her final orchestral work, "D'un matin de printemps". Already gravely ill, she nonetheless captured the carefree mood of a spring morning in this brief piece. The evening closes with Ravel's ballet "Daphnis et Chloé", its famous sunrise unfolding in a seemingly inexhaustible impressionist palette.
