ROLAND MARIA STANGIER

Roland Maria Stangier studied with Zsolt Gárdonyi in Würzburg and Daniel Roth in Paris. He was a recipient of the Berliner Alliierten Luftbrücken-Gedenkfonds-Stipendium (Bourse du mémorial du pont aérien) and the first organist to receive this award. During this period, he pursued advanced studies in Paris and Strasbourg with Daniel Roth and André Fleury.

Following positions as cantor in Schopfheim (1982/83) and Berlin (1983-91), he served from 1991 to 1995 as cantor and organist at Hauptkirche St. Petri in Hamburg and directed the Hamburg Bach Choir. In 1994, he accepted a professorship in organ and organ improvisation at Folkwang Universität der Künste in Essen. From 1998 to 2000, he was principal organist at Reformierten Stadtkirche in Solothurn, Switzerland. Stangier is the founder of the International Maurice Duruflé Improvisation Competition in Hamburg. He served as custodian of the Kuhn organ at Essen Philharmonie from 2003 to 2017 and as one of the organ curators at Mercatorhalle Philharmonie in Duisburg from 2009 to 2023. Roland Maria Stangier has recorded numerous CDs.
