The evening takes a spectacular turn: four singing stars and a much-loved song pianist - known for keeping audiences on their toes - have confirmed their participation in this celebration of the composer. Alongside several four-part pieces from Haydn's late output, each performer is invited to comment on Haydn in their own way. That could mean anything from the composer's beautiful English canzonettas, his early songs or the cantata "Arianna a Naxos" to Udo Jürgens, Elton John or Nina Hagen.

Expect wit, surprise, and a genuinely festive opening to the festival.
