[Ahmed]

American jazz musician Ahmed Abdul-Malik is regarded as one of the pioneers of world music. In his art, he experimentally combined elements from American, Arabic, and East African traditions into a vital, forward-looking jazz.

The quartet [Ahmed] - featuring Pat Thomas, Antonin Gerbal, Joel Grip, and Seymour Wright - dedicates itself to the music of Abdul-Malik, who died in 1993, and reinterprets it anew. The result is a driving, relentless music that is technically accomplished and simply swings with infectious energy.
