American jazz musician Ahmed Abdul-Malik is one of the pioneers of what would later be called world music. His art openly and experimentally blended elements from American, Arabic, and East African cultures into a vital, forward-looking jazz.

The quartet [Ahmed] - Pat Thomas, Antonin Gerbal, Joel Grip, and Seymour Wright - dedicates itself to the music of Abdul-Malik, who died in 1993, reinterpreting it for today. The result is a stomping, relentlessly driving sound that is technically accomplished but, above all, irresistibly swinging.
