Up de Walvis - The Borkum Musical

The folk-costume group Verein Borkumer Jungens created the musical "Up de Walvis" a few years ago as a tribute to Borkum's golden age of whaling. Traditional costumes, dance and sea shanties bring to life a story of pirates, whalers and courageous women.

The islanders have spared no effort in staging the island's women and children, pirates and whalers with real flair - and every year they raise the bar. Traditional dances, shanties and original folk songs are woven into a gripping story rooted in the legend of the feared pirate "Schwarzen Rolf", who is outwitted and put to flight by the women of Borkum. Half a ship on stage, an entire village or a full schoolroom - all built to measure for the Kulturinsel stage. "UP DE WALVIS" returns this year and is a must-see for anyone visiting the island.
