Woyzeck - a play by Georg Büchner

Since 2013, Büchner's "Woyzeck" has been a fixture in the Junge Bühne Mainz repertoire - a true long-runner.

Woyzeck is at the very bottom of the social ladder. To support his girlfriend Marie and their child, he scrambles from one odd job to the next: shaving a military captain and submitting to a highly dubious medical experiment involving a pea diet. He becomes a pawn of society, gradually drifting into a world of delusions and brutal fantasies - hounded, driven, tormented, more "trained animal" than "free man".

When he is forced to watch Marie cheat on him with a man of higher social standing, Woyzeck loses his last grip on reality. He gets hold of a knife...
