Velvets - stage adaptation of the opera by W.A. Mozart
Prince Tamino becomes lost while hunting in the realm of the Queen of the Night. When a serpent threatens him deep in the forest, he is rescued by the Queen - though not entirely without hidden motives:
Sarastro, the priest of Isis, once abducted her daughter Pamina to free her from her mother's evil influence. The Queen promises Tamino the princess's hand if he rescues her from Sarastro's grasp.
To aid him, he receives a magic flute and the cheerful bird-catcher Papageno, along with a magical bell.
When Tamino finally meets Sarastro, he learns that he is no villain at all, but the high priest in the Temple of Wisdom.
However, before the priest can release Princess Pamina, Tamino and Papageno must undergo three trials.
Meanwhile, the Queen of the Night places all manner of obstacles in their path…
The story unfolds in an entirely fairy-tale world and seems made for black theatre! The interplay of actors with masks, puppets, and pantomime works as a natural unity and playfully highlights the fairy-tale world of Mozart's most famous opera.
For adults and children from age 8 onwards.
