The king and queen have finally had a child, but the christening ends with a dark prophecy: a slighted fairy curses the little princess - on her sixteenth birthday she will prick herself on a poisoned spindle and fall into a hundred-year sleep.

One hundred years later, the great-grandson of the former prince encounters a world that has changed dramatically: cars drive without drivers, people hold small black boxes to their ears, cut holes in their trousers, and tattoo themselves like pirates. The evil fairy is still around too - now as a modern businesswoman. And in the middle of it all: Sleeping Beauty, who finally wakes up after a kiss.
