Composers like Erich Wolfgang Korngold and Miklós Rózsa brought the tradition of European concert music into the film studios, shaping the distinctive "Hollywood sound": lush orchestral textures, memorable themes, and emotional crescendos that drive the narrative and bring images to life.

Korngold's Violin Concerto pairs virtuoso solo writing with cinematic storytelling, while Bernard Herrmann's Vertigo Suite makes tension and psychological drama directly audible. Leonard Bernstein's "On the Waterfront" then shows how jazz, symphonic forms, and film music can fuse into a distinctly American musical voice.
