Mozart's Divertimento in F Major stems from his early creative period and combines melodic lightness with refined counterpoint. Grieg's suite draws on Baroque formal language and translates it into a Romantic sound world with dance rhythms and nostalgic colouring.

The evening concludes with Haydn's Farewell Symphony No. 45 - a work that unites playful wit with dramatic development. In the slow finale, the musicians leave the stage one by one: a humorous device that also serves as a subtle protest by the ensemble for their long-awaited journey home, raising questions about transience and the rights of artists.

The evening spans an arc from the gallant 18th century to a Romantic retrospective on past epochs.
