On Wednesday, 7 October 2026, at 18:00, Jill Lepore discusses her new book "The Rule of Machines" (C.H. Beck) on the Schauspiel stage - examining the state of the USA and the global consequences of artificial intelligence for democracy, justice, and freedom. Her conversation partners are Rieke Havertz and Klaus Brinkbäumer. Jonathan Beck, publisher of C.H. Beck, will deliver opening remarks; German text passages will be read by Anna Staab.

Jill Lepore is a Harvard professor of American history and staff writer for The New Yorker. This year she was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for "We the People: A History of the American Constitution". The discussion, conducted in German and English, will subsequently be published as a special episode of the podcast "Ok, America?".
