SPUREN III | Works by Andrea and Giovanni Gabrieli, Heinrich Schütz, Mathias Weckmann, Dietrich Buxtehude, Johann Sebastian Bach, and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
Two centuries of music converge in Kilian Homburg's festival debut at the Eule organ of Zeitz Cathedral. The first-prize winner of the XIV International Gottfried Silbermann Organ Competition (2023) sets out on a musical journey tracing the footsteps of the past. It begins with Andrea and Giovanni Gabrieli at St Mark's Basilica in Venice, winds through the Protestant lands visiting Kapellmeisters, cantors, and organists along the way. The journey ends in a Viennese cabinet of wax figures and curiosities, where a contrapuntal masterpiece by Mozart - originally written for a mechanical flute clock - rings out.
