Two brothers, one adventure, one fantastical world: Nangiyala. That is where Jonathan and "Crumbs" find themselves. On horseback they roam the paradise-like Cherry Blossom Valley and the mountains beyond. They fish, cool off in the stream, warm themselves by the campfire and live out everything they ever dreamed of.

But Nangiyala holds adventures that should never exist. The neighbouring Wild Rose Valley is crushed under the rule of a cruel tyrant. The people are rising up for freedom - and Jonathan and Crumbs rise with them. Not everyone is on their side, though, and a race against time begins...

Astrid Lindgren's late masterpiece tackles the great, enduring questions of good and evil, freedom and oppression, and the moral duty to act - all seen through a child's eyes. The solidarity of ordinary people and the grandeur of nature give Jonathan and Crumbs the courage to face their fears and grow beyond themselves.
