The biennial concert format Frei_Spiel stands for everything that defines the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie: a programme shaped through collective discussion, collaborations with other art forms, and the freedom to embrace artistic experimentation.

For this production, the performance collective She She Pop turns its gaze on the orchestra - and finds there a monstrous collective body: a many-armed, multi-lunged, highly expressive creature, but also a polyphonic creative community not unlike themselves. The difference: the musicians are highly specialised, each contributing to the shared endeavour through a strict division of labour, their eyes alternating between the conductor and the score - notated by an untouchable genius, to be rendered precisely and in the correct order.

Where does the euphoria come from that this collective practice releases in participants and audience alike? What is its price? And where do the inner contradictions, quirks, inhibitions, and personal doubts resonate?

Alongside works by Diana Syrse, Darius Milhaud, and Grażyna Bacewicz, both collectives jointly develop performative scores in which the orchestra's collective body and the individual perspectives of the musicians enter into explicit dialogue. A self-experiment that makes audible the tension between service and expression, between individual task and communal freedom.
