Young Theatre presents: "The Trumpeter of Säckingen"
Imagine simply throwing away your safe future plans to become a musician and do your own thing. Then you fall in love at first sight, even though your love is absolutely forbidden.
That's exactly what happens to young Werner. He abandons his boring studies and during a journey along the Rhine arrives at Schönau Castle. When he meets the beautiful Margaretha there, both are lost. The problem: her strict father immediately forbids the relationship because society's rules dictate that nobility and commoners cannot be together. What follows is a real fight for their shared future - with secret meetings, a dangerous attack by angry peasants in which Werner bravely defends the castle, and a sorrowful farewell.
What's special: the clever, talking cat Hiddigeigei guides the story as narrator and mockingly comments on the humans' love drama with witty and cheeky remarks.
But do they even have a real chance against the powerful feudal order? What lies behind the sudden journey to distant Rome and will perhaps even the Pope himself play a role in their salvation?
An exciting and touching theatrical piece that shows: when the world tells you that your dreams or your love are impossible, sometimes you just have to rewrite the rules of the game.
Direction and artistic leadership: Stefan Meier. The performances are created in collaboration with the Bad Säckingen Tourism and Culture Office.
Heartfelt thanks for the generous support from the Sparkassen Cultural Foundation Bad Säckingen.
