Roland Jankowsky has been a familiar face from German TV for years. Whenever his schedule allows, he returns to the stage and the recording studio. Theatre, chansons, literary readings, radio plays - Jankowsky covers a lot of ground.
It is above all his slightly peculiar Detective Overbeck who turned the ZDF crime series "Wilsberg" into a cult favourite, building a large and still-growing fan base - despite the many blunders the character keeps stumbling into. At his readings, however, Jankowsky steers well clear of them.
Drawing on years of experience as a radio presenter and narrator, Roland Jankowsky performs a selection of "criminal" short stories. His alter ego seems to show up uninvited even here - settling at the reading desk and commenting on the performance with expressive body language, the occasional aside, and a well-placed bon mot. A subtle interplay between narrator and actor unfolds, which the audience watches with growing delight, giving Jankowsky's readings their distinctive winking, playful quality.
The Cologne-based actor is an outstanding reader, and his craft promises an evening of top-class entertainment.
"Roland Jankowsky is the viewers' choice for 'Coolest TV Detective in Germany 2018'... Jankowsky delivered the finishing touch. His voice clear and precise, tailor-made for an audiobook. Local colour through accents, a few small, well-chosen gestures that underline the humour - Jankowsky offered one of the most atmospheric evenings of the Gießener Krimifestival." (Gießener Allgemeine)
"...Even the brutal scenes draw loud laughter... The dialects he imitates transport the audience to the regions where each author's story is set. He doesn't just read them - he performs them on stage and truly embodies the characters." (Trierischer Volksfreund)
