Marion Brasch, radioeins:
"Images form in your mind - even in a short three-minute piece you sink in inevitably and with surprising speed. Libuda's compositions are intricate and winding. He draws on every possibility the double bass offers: from bowed, lyrical passages in the highest registers to percussive, plucked chords. He develops beautiful themes and motifs, shifts rhythmically and harmonically between melodic and more exotic territory, oscillates between dense sonic fullness and transparent passages, and makes room for silence as readily as for luminous, powerful soundscapes. Libuda's pieces generate a pull that is hard to resist."

A fusion of virtuoso double bass playing and electroacoustic music.
The music of Berlin-based composer and double bassist Jaspar Libuda sits at the intersection of neoclassical, film music, and soundscapes, blending fixed arrangements with improvisation. He is known for his sensitive and virtuosic bowing technique.
Libuda's compositions are classical soundscapes - wordless musical stories, a declaration of love for melody and the deep emotions it can stir. Playing a five-string double bass with a high C string built especially for him, and combining a loop station with live electronics, he conjures an entire ensemble in front of the audience. He layers textures and rhythms, weaves melodies and silence into a dense sonic world that is at once melancholic and full of vitality. A state of suspension between styles and genres - crossing the borders of classical, neoclassical, jazz, rock, pop, and minimal music. With timbres that evoke cello, percussion, guitar, and oud.
Jaspar Libuda lives and works as a freelance musician and composer in Berlin.
