Concert: Jaspar Libuda Trio — Schlosskapelle Remplin, Malchin OT Remplin

"Images form in your mind - even in a short three-minute piece you find yourself drawn in, inevitably and surprisingly fast. Libuda's compositions are intricate and winding. He exploits every possibility of the double bass, from bowed lyrical passages in the highest registers to percussive, plucked chords, crafting beautiful themes and motifs, shifting rhythmically and harmonically between the melodic and the more exotic, oscillating between dense sonic fullness and transparent passages, making room for silence as much as for radiant, powerful soundscapes. Libuda's pieces generate a pull that is hard to resist."
- Marion Brasch, radioeins

"The union of virtuoso double bass playing with electroacoustic music."
- Olga Hochweis, Deutschlandradio Kultur

The music of Berlin-based composer and double bassist Jaspar Libuda sits at the intersection of neoclassical, film music and soundscapes - blending fixed arrangements with improvisation. He is best known for his sensitive and virtuosic bow technique.

On a five-string double bass with a high C string built especially for him, Libuda uses a loop station and live electronics to build an entire ensemble in real time, right before the audience's ears: layering textures and rhythms, weaving melodies and silence into a dense sonic world that is at once melancholic and full of vitality. A journey along the borders of classical, neoclassical, jazz, rock, pop and minimal music, with timbres that evoke cello, percussion, guitar and oud.
