EL AMIR feat. Sabrina Romero & Ricardo Espinosa — Alter Stadtsaal, Rathaushof, Speyer

Flamenco with passion

Amir-John Haddad looks exactly as an Asterix illustrator might imagine an Iberian flamenco warrior: daring! The man was born in 1975 in Freiburg, where he spent many years of his childhood and youth. His parents are from Colombia and Palestine. As a child, he learned to play by ear, his father teaching him the Arabic oud. At age seven, the family television broke down and was never replaced. "That was very important for my guitar playing and my creativity," recalls the well-travelled musician who has devoted himself above all to flamenco music. In Spain he studied under renowned teachers, but always trusted his intuitive grasp. For nearly a decade, he played guitar, oud and bouzouki with the acclaimed band Radio Tarifa, which was nominated for a Grammy. Film enthusiasts will recognize him too - he has played for composer Hans Zimmer on soundtracks including James Bond - No Time To Die. Amir's versatility, emotional depth and virtuosic command of every conceivable string instrument make his music an experience. You feel the Arabic roots of flamenco without needing to close your eyes. With equal passion and soulfulness, singer, percussionist and dancer Sabrina Romero and percussionist Ricardo Espinosa interpret flamenco.
