Napoleon's Spy — Stadthalle Freistett, Rheinau

An adventure theatre show with music about the life of Karl Ludwig Schulmeister. Written by Edzard Schoppmann

Five actors tell the remarkable story of Karl Ludwig Schulmeister - a pastor's son from Freistett who became Napoleon's spy. As "Monsieur Charles" he travelled across Europe, fought in Vienna against the Austrians, in Rostock against the Prussians, and served as chief of police in Königsberg - a master of disguise, charming, daring and full of tricks.

From smuggler to secret agent, from rise to ruin: he ended his days penniless, running a tobacco shop in Strasbourg.

With costumes, music, wit and pace, the ensemble brings Schulmeister's life to the stage - somewhere between fact and fiction, history and spectacle.

Ortenau writes world history - espionage becomes theatre! Schulmeister is a legend!
