Josep Vila i Casañas, artistic director of the MDR-Rundfunkchor, pairs Haydn's classical symphony "La chasse" with Mendelssohn Bartholdy's romantic cantata in this programme.

Die erste Walpurgisnacht is based on Goethe's ballad and depicts pagan druids defending their spring rituals in the night forest - using cunning to resist outside forces. Mendelssohn weaves dramatic choral scenes together with lyrical nature imagery.
