Ali Baba & the 40 Thieves - Interactive Theatre - Open Air (Schloss Hubertus)

"Open Sesame" - with these magic words, poor woodcutter Ali Baba discovers a great treasure hidden inside a mysterious mountain. He takes a small share to give himself a better life. When his greedy brother Kazim finds out, he wants to do the same - but the 40 thieves catch him off guard, and his greed proves his undoing.

In this participatory theatre format, an experienced actor tells the fairy tale while playing all the characters himself. Children are fully involved: they can call out ideas and suggestions to the performer on stage, who weaves them spontaneously into the story, and at many points the kids can join in and act alongside him. The result is a lively, improvised play between storyteller and audience.

The production was created by Johannes Galli, with music composed especially for the show by Johannes Galli and Michael Summ. A CD featuring all the fairy-tale songs from the performance - including backing tracks and lyrics - is available at the theatre.
