Jazz im Rathaushof - Die Armstrongs
Rathaus Speyer, Germany
"Swing is the rhythm of the gods," Duke Ellington once said. True to that spirit, Die Armstrongs have dedicated themselves entirely to swing: the trio plays handcrafted instrumental music drawn from the classics of the Golden Swing Era, with the ghost of guitarist Django Reinhardt never far away.
The lineup - trumpet, acoustic guitar and double bass - produces a lean but expressive sound that balances tradition with spontaneous improvisation. The three musicians behind Die Armstrongs are Johannes Stange, Marcus Armani and Michael Herzer, who came together specifically for this formation.
Their playing thrives on subtle nuances and virtuosic solos, and the sheer joy of making music together comes through in every note.
