Jazz im Rathaushof - Axel Schlosser Quartett

"To Satch and Duke" is the current programme of the Axel Schlosser Quartett - and the title says it all: Louis Armstrong and Duke Ellington, two of the most defining figures in jazz history.

The quartet explores the work of both musicians across its full range: familiar pieces sit alongside rarely played ones, and early compositions from the 1920s are placed next to works from the late 1960s. Since neither Armstrong nor Ellington typically performed in a quartet setting, the material inevitably takes on its own distinct sonic perspective here.
